Hola Amigos,
Apologies for my temporary hiatus, but I have been enjoying myself too much to blog about it!
I don't really know where to begin, so I will write about this past weekend!
The weeks here fly by (probably because I only have class Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Whoops. But hey, I got to take advantage of this light schedule while I can!
This past Thursday, my housemates and I celebrated Kristen's 21st Birthday (a girl in the residencia). We sent her on a scavenger hunt around the house as each room sang to her, fed her drinks, and topped it off with a party on our terrace (roof-top deck). Since we all had to get up at 6:30 am the next morning to go to Colonia, Uruguay, we passed on taking her out and kept the party at our house. It was a fun night, and quite a success for the birthday girl.

We woke up bright and early Friday morning to head over to Colonia, Uruguay. We walked out the door at 7 am to arrive at the ferry at 8. Early morning for all, however, all 19 roommates made it! I was very impressed with everyone. The ferry took 3 hours which got us into Uruguay at a little after noon. We later found out that Buenos Aires to Colonia is 45 km=27.98 miles. Meaning we were going 9 miles an hour on this ferry. Why we were going so slow is beyond me... But thats ok we got to see the skyline of Buenos Aires for a long time. Also, (might have been the most exciting part of the day) there was a duty free shop on board! I got Goldfish and a Hershey's Cookies and Cream bar! It was very exciting.

Anyway, once we got to Colonia, we got lunch and then a city tour. The city is precious and very old. It had very old cobblestone streets, and buildings built by the Portuguese and the Spanish dating back to the 1600's. The beaches over in Colonia were super nice and it was a perfect day. After our city tour, Kailey, Anna, Christian, and I got some Sangria while we killed time before the bus took us back to the ferry. We then took the ferry back and Elda surprised us with a surprise party for Kristen's birthday! She made choripan and cake. Everyone then passed out, very quickly!
Saturday was Saint Patrick's Day so we took it as an excuse to be American, and well, live the stereotype to day drink. We drank on our terrace and then headed to a fun street called Reconquista where there were a bunch of Irish pubs. Apparently, day drinking in America is like 8 hours earlier as compared to the Argentinean idea of day drinking. It was a fun day, and we got to see a lot of Americans and Europeans in this street celebrating good ole Saint Patty. Funny thing that happened: as we were drinking at the residencia around 3 pm, Elda (our host mom) asked us who is Saint Patty and why we celebrate the holiday. Embarrassingly enough, not one out of 19 people could answer the question.

Todos on Saint Patty's
Cheers to Saint Patrick
Sunday was spent sleeping and then I met up with my best friend from home, Chelsea! Her boyfriend Scott is in town so I met up with them and we went to dinner. We were planning on cooking dinner in his hostel, but the bus situation not showing up for an hour put us behind schedule, so we settled for a cafe. It was fun and it was nice spending time with the two of them. Great couple, great couple. I also love being surrounded by people from home, its so surreal having Chels here. I love spending time with her in a foreign country. Still hasn't hit me that we are here together, it's really weird, but I couldn't be happier!
I was supposed to go to a drum show tonight with Scott and Chels, but the residencia is about to get grounded for bad behavior this weekend. So excited! (Kidding, but really we are about to get in trouble for being too loud this weekend).
Besos,
Ellen
