Traveling Galore! (Rome 2)

Hello World! I am back to the blogging!

SO much to share. I wanted to wait until I was back from my first abroad trip to write though!

I have become much more accustomed to everything in Rome. In fact, while I was away this weekend, I even really missed Italy, and specifically Rome. I missed the language, the people & the food, ALOT!

After being here only one weekend, the travel plans began! My best friend and I (also in Rome) decided to go to Prague. We chose Prague because it was both a place that was not to far and we had heard amazing things about. We also both knew people studying there that we wanted to see! Our friend from our hometown Amanda had just gotten there about two weeks ago and Julie's camp friend had only gotten there thursday!

As we left Rome, there was a huge snowstorm. Never does it snow in Europe, EVER! But as we went to get in the taxi to the airport, the mixture of snow and ice was hitting the windshield pretty hard. We kept looking up the flight on my handy dandy trip tracker app (#iphonelife) and it said it was on time. In the back of my head, I didn’t know if the plane would actually take off. We managed to get through security and the snow turned into a cold rain. Everything was on time and the weather in Prague was bright and sunny.

Only one thing, it was 8 degrees. (yes that was the high.) We were prepared though, leggings under our jeans and MULTIPLE layers. We looked like snowmen, but at least our bodies were not completely shivering!

We flew over the Swiss Alps and arrived in Prague!! It was so cold but my body couldn't feel it just yet. The city was INCREDIBLE! We went to the Lennon Wall, Charles Bridge, Old Clock Tower, Jewish Quarters and many more sites! We experienced hot wine, and many different kinds of meals! The Lennon Wall, a wall of free graffiti was one of my favorite parts. The Jewish temples and the Prague Castle were also incredibly beautiful and amazing to be able to see!

The hostel that we stayed at was very reasonable and extremely AMAZING. For a mid 15-euro a night we were living in luxury. The shower was one of the best ever experienced and we had breakfast included! I was mildly surprised at my super saver booking abilities.

We went to a five-story club on Saturday night, after meeting our friend Amanda at a bar. Each level of the club features a different theme and a different type of music; we were not let down with the nightlife! It is very different then Rome but very fun to experience while you are there!

The Czech food was interesting! It was somewhat American, with much more meat. I have to say, I CANT WAIT FOR PASTA & PIZZA again! I mostly got salads with some sort of grilled chicken and vegetables!

Last night was the super bowl, and with the time difference it ended up being a long night!! I had just arrived back from Prague so my super big wheel bag pack joined in on the night. We went to a bar and it was completely filled with American students! Everyone was cheering, there was an American playlist on and screams of "USA" were all around us. It felt good to see the American Spirit so far away!! Go Giants! (lol)

I am excited to be back in Rome for (4 days) and then I am going to London on Friday! I will be seeing a lot of people I know and going to an English speaking country!! That is very exciting after a mix of Italian + Czech have been my past week. Don't even get me started on the Czech abnormal currency! They have 1000 bills!

I will continue to write on Monday's, as it is easy to brainstorm while travelling and complete them when I then arrive back to Rome! I even had a snow day today (who knew that it snows in Rome) but it was nice to relax, meet friends for lunch and try to catch up with my family and friends over video chat and facebook!

I am excited to get back to class tomorrow. I have just joined in on a completely on site "Art of Rome" class and it is fascinating to see how much you can learn by exploring this ancient city! Time to do some homework for the first time since I have arrived..I kind of forgot what reading and pure concentration is like...wish me luck!

More next week! Lots of Love,

Ali
